Today was my first day back to school since a “major disruption”, and I could not be more happier to be back, this time, doing a program that I am really passionate about.
Being self critical in a job like an education assistant is sometimes how you learn, improve and iterate how you perform the job. I learned today that I am going to have to put some distance between the people I will eventually support. No matter what, I am dedicated to learning this key skill. My weakness is my heavy emotional involvement in my close friends, often to their detriment.
I also learned that the system we live in is cyclical in nature, and that inclusion is about challenging the cyclical nature of systems designed to exclude those with disabilities, something that is a growing problem in our education system. I did a bullying on disabled persons paper at Douglas College in 2025 that goes further into detail on bullying in schools, as well as in adulthood. I also did a paper on a disorder called narcolepsy, and the impact on the behaviour and brain development of children and youth as a research project of my own. I intend to investigate rare diseases and impacts on behaviour in EDAS 1121 and 1130.
On a personal level, I am okay and safe. I’m working hard on my non profit, and trying to get it up and running. I am trying to work on me, so I can do better for, and support others. Part of that journey is giving back to the community that I belong to.
